election watch 2009

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) (Background note attached) is a Non-Political, Non-Partisan and a Non-Governmental Organization whose PIL filed in Dec 1999 culminated in a Supreme Court order on Mar 13, 2003 requiring disclosure of criminal, financial and educational background of all contesting candidates. Since then ADR has done Election Watches in almost all State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. It continues to works towards strengthening democracy and governance in India by focusing on fair and transparent electoral and political processes. You can learn more about our work by visiting the websites www.adrindia. org, www.nationalelectio nwatch.org and http://myneta. info.

State assembly elections are going to be held in Maharashtra around September- October 2009. Association for Democratic Reforms is currently looking for few volunteers with knowledge of Marathi language as we are collecting and analyzing the affidavits of Maharashtra assembly elections 2004. Based on the information ADR will come out with reports and comparisons of criminal and financial records of contesting candidates in both elections. These reports are widely covered in the media and help voters make an informed choice before casting their vote.

We need volunteers with knowledge of Marathi language to help us comprehend affidavits filed by contestants from Maharashtra in Marathi. The volunteer will have to spend few hours per day for a week in our office within next 2 weeks. (flexible timings and on weekdays)

Anybody with few hours to spare and wishing to support our work is welcome to contact us. Our office is in Hauz Khas, near IIT.

Please mail back or contact me on 9891276662 in case of any queries or if you wish to volunteer. Looking forward to your support.

Thanks & Regards
