Draft Volunteer Training Module

Draft of the Volunteer Training Module
(This was sent to me by Kanan Jaiswal for comments -- my comments are in red)
[There will be four training sessions, each of one and a half hours, and the style of training will be highly interactive]
Those who are coming to volunteer are already motivated – but it is an amorphous group, needing coherrence in their attitude and action. Hence my comments
Session 1 : Introduction – [PIU -- “Pl introduce urself” session ]
A. Current political scenario and Background.
B. Why a new political formation called for? Why the extant outfits cannot deliver?
C. Why the India Against Corruption campaign and agitation needs to be channelised politically? Why is a general awareness movement divorced from electoral politics not the answer?
[ candidly accept what were ur shortcomings last year when u felt that “We The People” concept was more powerful than elected representatives –My own suggestion – Do not give a bye-bye to that as  we need a mix of the two. Pl see my views here http://rajkeeya-chintan.blogspot.in/2012/08/team-anna_10.html  ]
Similarly this number game cannot be won unless there is a paradigm shift – in favour of 2 character-indicators – Honesty and Skills – This aspect should be discussed widely.
Session 2 : Let Us Formalise Our Mission and objectives
[If possible circulate these below-mentioned views beforehand.]

  • Through decentralisation and devolution of power, this party seeks to change the rules of the game.
  • It aims to make the people, and not those occupying positions of power in the national and state capitals, the real decision makers in matters of great importance like land, waters, forests, mining, education, health, and nutrition.
  • It also aims at making governance transparent and corruption-free
  •              by having persons of high integrity in the government
  •              and also by making systemic changes that would almost  banish malfeasance whatever be the composition of the government.
  •  The party would swear by inner party democracy with the so-called high command having no say in the selection of candidates for elections.
  • The Jan Lokpal will be made a reality and
  • the rights to reject and recall enshrined in the People’s Representation Act. India will progress to a real democracy in which, as before, people will choose their representatives in free and fair elections held at regular intervals, but now they will also exercise control over those representatives and the rule of law – Be you ever so high, the law is above you – will prevail in the country.

Also in this session the following will be covered:
who are the leaders and their qualifications and convictions – Introduction to the core party leaders – KYL (Know Your Leaders)
the party's 'mission statement' – Let Us Finalise
what are its short term goals ---- Let Us Finalise
what are the long term goals ---- Let Us Finalise
who can be selected a candidate for elections and how to choose them
what do they need for success - Let Us Finalise
how are they going to be different from the 'others' -  Let Us Finalise
Let Us Be Prepared for--

  • Best Case scenario : the party wins a majority. Unfold plans and programmes, many described above, it will undertake and legislate on.
  • Worst Case scenario : Our efforts do not translate into Parliamentary seats, even then, we would have made a dent, we would have shaken  other political parties out of their complacency, we would have compelled them to reorder their agenda, and re-prioritize. For example, the Green Party has not formed government in any country of Western Europe, but it has brought environmental concerns centre stage. It is now an integral part of every political party's election manifesto.

Session 3 : Pre-requisites for a volunteer and how to develop them
(This session is meant for whom ??? )
